heh..yeah, just like chp 1 does.......
the funny thing is --- I'm lvl 16 on my first character, btw --- I was actually trying to make a little cash to start saving for 15k armor until I just found out it was the same as the cheap armor.
I just don't see the point of starting a game and immediately buying all the good stuff.
the whole point of the game is to find things as you progress --- that's balancing.
if people really want all this stuff so badly, they don't have to concoct all these schemes on playing the skull market -- just go to e-bay and you're an instant millionaire who can buy all the premium items the second chp 2 hits the shelves.
for the sake of honesty, though, I'll admit I used 5 canes to get myself 4k credit on a 3 pt vamp hilt.
and an hour later, somebody gave me a cane just to be nice.
I think that underscores the ridiculousness of it all.

yeah hold on let me go kill a bunch of gargoyles, take their skulls to the nearest city, and find the guy conveniently standing around who has an apparently infinite supply of candy canes, trade him my supply of skulls for some of them, then walk to the busiest part of town i can find and yell at the top of my lungs "WTS CANDY CANES 500g EACH"
i'll totally rake in the cash

I doubt price will spike unless sellers start doing it in unison artificially.

i think it will depend on whether or not enough people find a real use for them.
if it turns out useful people will stock up and prices will rise.
considering how much gold is out there if a rich person has a use he/she may just offer 1k for all you have and it will be pocket change to them
i am saving mine until exploring chapter 2 takes off

I think it's fun to challenge myself. Therefore I think it's fun to go out under circumstances where it's likely I'll get killed. Therefore I think candy canes could enhance fun.
E.g., pre candy-cane I went out with my non-ascended teens-level character (I forget exactly which level he was at), who had (and still has) Drok's armor but not really godly weapons, and no other elites, to cap elites in Snake Dance.
Maybe not orthodox, but is was challenging and fun.
Didn't need candy canes -- but I might if I want to repeat the trick elsewhere in the Shiverpeaks.
Candy canes can also be a substitute for only going out when somebody in your group already knows where you're going. E.g., I got to Augury Rock just with henchies and an online map. I think I used a cane or two to do it (again, I don't recall for sure).
And having screwed up and not capped Ether Renewal when I did the Elona Reach mission, I plan to take henchies and go back in to do it. If it takes a cane, so be it.

i got 222 candy canes left and I'm using them for myself if i ever need them...I gave 25 away to 5 people in LA yesterday after I spammed I was selling <just helping out the low level characters>...after all it's NOT real money...only a game folks. I doesn't matter how much money you have in a game, you won't be envied for it...all anyone needs is enough to get their weapons and armor. JMO

Today CC were being offered for 800 each in LA. I asked the seller if they were actually selling at that price and he said yes, he had sold 600. Doubt that all 600 went for 800 each, but price is going up.
Not too much of a surprise, if you are near the end of a difficult mission with -60 DP, you would pay almost anything to get healthy again.

I think a market does exist for these due to their obvious uses for runners and farmers. Since you have to pay to enter the UW/FoW areas and you stand to lose money on a failed run attempt (particularly to Droknar's Forge), these will rise in price once the market is no longer saturated with them.
At the present time, so many people that play have these stockpiled, but I think that once the new expansion comes out there will be an influx of new blood. If these new people wish to farm and do Droknar runs, they will likely pay up for DP removal.
I mean consider this scenario - you are running to Droknar with 5 people willing to each pay 3k if you succeed. You make it to the zone, but acquire DP after that. You are looking at losing 15k if you fail. I think 1k to save that run would be more than reasonable. I'm sure there are other similarly compelling scenarios.

You might want to sell the candy canes before chapter 2 comes out, there might be items that will remove DP that you can buy from the merchant.

This would only ever be a problem if ANET underpriced such an item addition - which they never do. They *love* it when we spend money!

I've been reading rumors to this effect. Like you will be able to buy "med kits" from merchants. This is total speculation as far as I know, but it's something to think about if you're holding on to your CC's hoping that the prices will jump.

I know it's incredibly boring, but I can only repeat what Gaile has said when asked about rumours in the past:
Until we confirm something, don't set your heart on it being true. If it's a rumour, chances are it's going to be wrong. That's the way these things go, a lot of the time. Someone will talk about something they'd *like* to have, and overtime as more people talk about it it gets twisted into "I heard they are going to do this..."

Wow King Symeon, I've seen your posts in other places, you're a black and white kinda guy aren't you, lol. I too have never used a candy cane, but I've been in frustrating situations where it might have been nice to have one. And not everyone in the game is as skilled as some of us are. I think there will be sales here and there to cover for most people's stocks for months to come, and as long as you didn't buy them yourself, it's all profit, even at 50gp each. I farmed nolani untill I got bored, and I have to say, there weren't really that many people there farming, so you don't have to worry about everyone having one. There were what, three districts open? And not everyone there was actually farming. Anet claims something like one million copies of the game sold right? Here in the US it's got to be at least half of that right? Assume half of those are PvE players... the main market for candy canes... and you have a lot of people without dp removal who get stuck in simple places, and not so simple places, who could use a quick pick me up, or face doing a whole map over again. And how many of us have many in stock? even if it were a thousand people, you have a market of 250 buyers to one supplier. That's IF Anet is right about copies sold. But even at 100 to one, I think in a few months they will sell. My concern is that Anet will have potion dealers in chapter two that will make these obsolete, but even then, I gathered them myself... so no mater what I sell them at, I make money.
Wanna hear something funny, I have 1000 of them. I gathered them because I wanted them for my guildies. I got bored otherwise I'd have 2000. They were droping like 15 a run. And with a pyro I had an easy time of it. I collected those in four days of few hours a night. Did it after work because I find collecting fun. Atleast it was something to do, had a purpose. Now, the hilareous thing is, I did it for fun, didn't pay a gold piece, and if they can be sold at 500 a pop... I'm siting on 500k... not do funny now eh? All for a little diversion in my day that I enjoyed.

I farmed my favorite spot and got 10 to 12 canes a trip was easy to have hundreds in no time. Now to get 1k each for them and become the richest person in GW's. And I'm still wearing 1500gp armor lol
And medi-kits in the 2nd chapter is just a rumor and we all know what Gaile says about rumors. Unlimited medi-kits would just eliminate the Death Penalty and I doubt they are all for that. There would be no challenge left in the game if there was unlimited Death Penalty cures. Candy Canes will run out eventually, and by this time next Christmas will be popular again. As for medi-kits I'll believe it when I see it not when some forumite that "wishes" they were in the game says they will be in the game, they don't know squat.

I haven't seen candy canes sell for cheaper than 250-300g each since last week. And they seem to be going up in price. The most I've seen on ACTUALLY sell for was 1k.
My guess is that the price will stabilize between 300g to 700g each. Most people don't need more than 3-5 on a toon, and most will only use them for the most dire of circumstances. I would think UW/FoW groups would find this really useful for that one mistake that wipes out a good portion of the group.
Personally, I won't use one for myself unless I cross the -30% dp threshold, which rarely happens. I find them very useful for trying to learn difficult runs, such as the 55 solo monk IDS run (especially when you get to the springs zone...it just helps speed up the process of learning the second part of the run since I don't have to start back at the citadel).
Candy canes are very useful in the right circumstances...
